MEETING NOTES

01/18/2007
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING JANUARY 18, 2007 1:30 p.m. DARYL SCHOUEST OFFICE- Breaux Bridge

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. Present for the meeting were President Daniel Lyons, Vice-President Johnny Boudreaux, Treasurer Daryl Schouest, and Secretary Howard Cormier. The goal of the meeting, as delineated at the January 16, 2006 Board of Directors meeting, was to establish responsibilities, time schedules, and duties of Executive Committee members, and set specific responsibilities/time schedules for committee chairmen.

The secretary’s responsibility is to maintain records, take in all dues and membership information, and send membership cards to new members to acknowledge receipt of dues. He is also to assist in sending e-mail and snail mail letters to the membership on behalf of the board or president, as needed or requested.

The group discussed possibilities for updating the membership brochure. Those plans included:
- changing membership type to eliminate bronze, silver, and gold sponsors;
- changing organizations of less than 100 and more than 100 to associations/organizations;
- allowing more space to record contact information; and,
- changing the name and contact information of the newly elected secretary.

There was discussion about utilizing the state Farm Bureau staff to assist in membership and mailings. No action was taken, and it was felt that membership and association records should be kept in possession of the secretary of LEC. Also, funds have been allocated to La. Tech to accomplish these tasks.

The next item discussed was district educational clinics. District boundaries will be addressed in the by-laws, and district lines will be changed to parish boundaries, instead of congressional district lines.

Board members and the areas they represent will be posted on the website.

After more discussion, the group agreed to focus on six goals in 2007. They are:

1. Build districts through district educational clinics.
2. Increase LEC membership
3. Support research and implementation of an insurance program for LEC members.
4. Promote the EXPO
5. Develop a Horseman’s Resource Book.
6. Develop a Youth Equine Ambassador program

Sponsors such as Purina or Nutrena could be asked to help promote district clinics.

Clinics would be targeted during May, which is horse month in Louisiana. The proposed trailer raffle would also be planned for May.

Work will be done to further develop districts through district advisory councils who would develop and encourage activities tailored to the needs of each district.

The review of committee goals was not addressed at this meeting. The meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
